The April 2005 Release of Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb for Linux has a bug associated with saving games. See our Linux Support Page for a workaround.
An update is availble for Inherit the Earth. To determine if you need this update, look at your Inherit the Earth CD-ROM. If the date at the bottom of the disc (below the copyright notice) is earlier than "March 2011", then you should download and apply the update.
The update program requires an active Internet connection to function.
To download the update follow the steps below. (If you a familar with downloading software from the Internet, just click on the Start Download button at the bottom of the section.) Note: You can only apply the update to an already installed copy of Inherit the Earth.
Step 1: The update will fail if a copy of Inherit the Earth or the configuration program is running. Close those programs before starting the download.
Step 2: When you click on the Start Download button below, your browser will begin to download the Inherit the Earth Updater software.
Step 3: If you are using Internet Explorer, you should be asked whether you want to run the software from its current location or save it to disk. If you prefer to save the update software to disk, follow the instructions in step 4. If you instead choose the first option, the update process should begin immeadiately after the software finishes downloading. Skip to step 5.
Step 4: If you are using Firefox or chose to save to disk in step 3, you will be presented with a dialog asking where to save the file itenetupdater.exe. Save it where you want to, but remember the location.
After the download is complete, find the itenetupdater.exe on your hard drive and double-click on its icon or name. This will start the update.
Step 5: When the update is complete, you can continue your quest for the Orb!
Windows Update
A patch is available to convert the PowerPC version Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb to a Universal Binary that will run natively on Intel-based Macs. This patch also provides for proper full screen mode on 10.6 (Snow Leopard) systems. This download is 8MB in size.
To download and apply the patch please follow the steps below.
Step 1: You must first install a copy of Inherit the Earth from the Inherit the Earth CD. Follow the instructions on the case insert to install the game.
Step 2: When you click on the Start Download button below, your browser will begin to download a compressed disk image containing the Inherit the Earth Patcher software.
Step 3: Wait until the download is complete. If your web browser and system are properly configured, the disc image will be decompressed and automatically mounted. An icon named "Inherit the Earth Patcher" should appear on the Desktop.
If the "Inherit the Earth Patcher" icon doesn't appear, please read these additional instructions.
Step 4: Double-click the icon to open the disk image. Inside will be an application named "Inherit the Earth Patcher". Double-click this icon to launch the Patcher. Following the software's instructions to complete the installation.
Step 5: Once the patch has been installed, you can safely eject the disk image and dispose of the "InheritTheEarthPatcher.dmg" file.
