The April 2005 Release of Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb for Linux has a bug associated with saving games. See our Linux Support Page for a workaround.
A third update to Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb for Windows is now available. You should only download and apply this update if you are having problems playing the game on an LCD monitor in full-screen mode. Symptoms of this problem are error messages such as "Input signal out of range" or obviously incorrect colors. This download is 324KB in size.
To determine if you can use this update directly, look at your Inherit the Earth CD-ROM. If the line at the bottom of the disc (below the copyright notice) reads "January 2006 Release", you can apply the third update after installing the game from the CD. The update can also be applied if you have already installed update 1.2.
NOTE: If you own the "October 2003" release, you must apply update 1.2 before update 1.3. If you own the "April 2003" release, you must apply update 1.1 and then update 1.2 before update 1.3.
To download the update follow the steps below. (If you a familar with downloading software from the Internet, just click on the Start Download button at the bottom of the section.) Note: You can only apply the update to an already installed copy of Inherit the Earth.
Step 1: The update will fail if a copy of Inherit the Earth or the configuration program is running. Close those programs before starting the download.
Step 2: When you click on the Start Download button below, your browser will begin to download the Inherit the Earth 1.3 Update software.
Step 3: If you are using Internet Explorer, you should be asked whether you want to run the software from its current location or save it to disk. If you prefer to save the update software to disk, follow the instructions in step 3. If you instead choose the first option, the update process should begin immeadiately after the software finishes downloading. Skip to step 4.
Step 4: If you are using Netscape Navigator or chose to save to disk in step 2, you will be presented with a dialog asking where to save the file iteupd3.exe. Save it where you want to, but remember the location.
After the download is complete, find the iteupd3.exe on your hard drive and double-click on its icon or name. This will start the update.
Step 5: During the update process you will be asked to confirm the location of your Inherit the Earth installation. You should only modify this information if the location shown is incorrect. The update can only be applied to an installed copy of Inherit the Earth.
Step 6: When the update is complete, you can continue your quest for the Orb!
Windows Update 1.3
Inherit the Earth for Windows 1.2 Update
A second update to Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb for Windows is now available. This update replaces the game's MIDI score with a new digital score, plus it fixes a problem that a few people have experienced with slow CD-ROM drives. This download is 46MB in size.
To determine if you can use this update, look at your Inherit the Earth CD-ROM. If the line at the bottom of the disc (below the copyright notice) says "Printed October 2003", then you might consider downloading and applying the update. NOTE: If you own the "April 2003" release of the game, you must first download and apply the update to version 1.1 before downloading and applying this update.

This update fixes a crash that sometimes happens in particular scenes near the end of the game. It also includes corrections to the manual and a non-critical fix to the uninstall program. This download is 407KB in size.
To determine if you need the update, look at your Inherit the Earth CD-ROM. If the line at the bottom of the disc (below the copyright notice) says "Printed April 2003", then you should consider downloading and applying the update.

Windows Update 1.1
A patch is available to convert the PowerPC version Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb to a Universal Binary that will run natively on Intel-based Macs. This patch also fixes a bug in the April 2007 release that can prevent the game from running on 10.5 (Leopard) systems. This download is 5MB in size.
To download and apply the patch please follow the steps below.
Step 1: You must first install a copy of Inherit the Earth from the Inherit the Earth CD. Follow the instructions on the jewel-case insert to install the game.
Step 2: When you click on the Start Download button below, your browser will begin to download a compressed disk image containing the Inherit the Earth UB Patcher software.
Step 3: Wait until the download is complete. If your web browser and system are properly configured, the disk image will be decompressed and automatically mounted. An icon named "Inherit the Earth UB Patcher" should appear on the Desktop.
If the "Inherit the Earth UB Patcher" icon doesn't appear, please read these additional instructions.
Step 4: Double-click the icon to open the disk image. Inside will be an application named "Inherit the Earth UB Patcher". Double-click this icon to launch the Patcher. Following the software's instructions to complete the installation.
Step 5: Once the patch has been installed, you can safely eject the disk image and dispose of the "InheritTheEarthUBPatcher.dmg" file.
