1.  Is this the same game that was released in 1994 by New World Computing?

Except for some minor bug fixes, changes in the credits and modified music, it is the same game.

2.  Is this just a re-release of the DOS and Mac 68K CD-ROM versions?

No, these versions are fully native applications for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

3.  What is an "adventure" game?

The Just Adventure web site defines an adventure game as "a genre of computer entertainment that is centered around a character with a universal goal and is not combat-based." While this is not universally true, the definition does fit Inherit the Earth.

4.  What is my mission in Inherit the Earth?

Your mission is to guide Rif on his adventure, find clues to locate the real thief, and solve challenges along the way. You can have Rif talk to Okk, Eeah, and other Morph characters that are encountered during Rif's travels. Rif can pick-up items he finds and give these items to others. Some will only trade information for precious items, although what a Morph considers precious can vary greatly.

5.  What is a Morph?

A Morph is a member of one of the tribes of intellegent, humanoid animal characters in Inherit the Earth. Rif, Eahh and Okk can each be called a Morph. Morph is short for "anthropomorphic," which is defined as the attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena.

6.  Can you give me the address of someone who worked on the game?

The short answer is "No." The long answer is that you are welcome to send correspondence to Wyrmkeep Entertainment and we will try to pass it along. No promises though.

7.  Is there a hint book?

Yes. You can get it now. Click on the "Adventurers Guide" link of the lower-left menu on this page.

8.  Is the music available on CD or download?

An audio CD is now available. Click on the "Soundtrack Album" link of the lower-left menu on this page. We are researching digital downloads, but don't offer that option right now.

9.  When is the sequel coming out?

We plan to have an announcement about that later this year. Check the Wyrmkeep Entertainment web site for updated information.

10.  What is the rating of this game?

Since this game is not being published in the retail market, Wyrmkeep Entertainment has decided not to undergo the costly procedure of having the game rated by the ESRB. We consider the game to be rated for general audiences. "Fun for the whole family," we say.

11.  Which versions of Windows will the game run under?

The game will run under Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It should also run under Windows 2003, but that hasn't been tested yet.

12.  Why does the game not run under Windows 95 and Windows NT?

Windows 95 and Windows NT are no longer actively supported by Microsoft. This makes it very hard for Wyrmkeep Entertainment to support those operating systems. All we can say is "Sorry for the inconvenience."

13.  What is the minimum version of DirectX required?

The minimum version of DirectX required is DirectX 6. All the supported Windows versions ship with DirectX 6 or later.

14.  Has the game's music changed for Windows?

Yes. We have digitally recorded the music as played by the original target instrument, a Roland MT-32. The current release of the game plays these digital recordings instead of the old MIDI scores. You can update a prior release by Wyrmkeep Entertainment to use the digital scores.

15.  Which versions of Mac OS X will the game run under?

The game will run under Mac OS X 10.1.2 or later.

16.  Why does the game not run under Mac OS 9 or earlier?

Steve Jobs told us not to make software for Mac OS 9 or earlier. (What that really means is that can't support OS versions that Apple doesn't support.)

17.  Has the game's music changed for the Mac OS X?

Yes. We have digitally recorded the music as played by the original target instrument, a Roland MT-32. The game plays these digital recordings instead of the old MIDI scores.

18.  Which versions of Linux will the game run under?

The game will run under Linux 2.4 or 2.6 for x86 processors such as Intel Pentium, AMD Athlon, etc. X-Windows is also required.

19.  Will there be versions for Linux for PowerPC, FreeBSD or X-Windows-less systems?

Probably not. You should be able to run the game under FreeBSD if you have installed the Linux compatibility layer. You may be able to get the game to run without X-Windows with a special build of libsdl, but we don't supply such a build. See our Linux Support page for other issues.

Alternately, you may find that ScummVM can run on your platform, and Inherit the Earth can run in ScummVM.
