Downloading and installing the Inherit the Earth Trial

This trial version of Inherit the Earth is a playable version of the game. At some point you will be asked to purchase a registration key to continue play.

For Windows 2000, XP & Vista

Step 1: When you click on the Download Windows button below, your browser will begin to download the Inherit the Earth Trial installation software.

Step 2: If you are using Internet Explorer, you should be asked whether you want to run the software from its current location or save it to disk. If you prefer to save the installation software to disk, follow the instructions in step 3. If you instead choose the first option, the installation process should begin immeadiately after the software finishes downloading. Skip to step 4.

Step 3: If you are using Netscape Navigator or chose to save to disk in step 2, you will be presented with a dialog asking where to save the file itetrial.exe. Save it where you want to, but remember the location.

After the download is complete, find the itetrial.exe on your hard drive and double-click on its icon or name. This will start the installation.

Step 4: During installation you will be asked where you want the Inherit the Earth Trial installed. The default location should be fine for most people.

Step 5: Play the trial If you like it, purchase a registration key to complete the game!

For Mac OS X 10.4 or Later

Step 1: When you click the Download Mac OS X button below, your browser will begin to download a disc image containing the trial.

Step 2: Wait until the download is complete. If your web browser and system are properly configured, your Mac will mount the disc image.

(If the disc image doesn't automatically mount when your download completes, please read these additional instructions.)

Step 3: A new Finder window will appear containing two icons named "Inherit the Earth" and "Inherit the Earth Voices". To install simply drag these icons to your Applications folder (or whatever other folder or disk you'd like to store it.)

Step 4: Once the software is installed, you can safely "eject" the virtual disk it came on (and dispose of the .dmg disc image if you choose.)

Step 5: Double-click the "Inherit the Earth" icon in its new location to play the trial. If you like it, purchase a registration key to complete the game!

For Linux 2.6 (x86) or Later

Step 1: When you click the Download Linux button below, your browser will begin to download an archive containing the installation software.

Step 2: After the download is complete, locate the downloaded archive file InheritTheEarth-1.1-Linux-x86-Install.tar.gz on your hard drive. Open a terminal window and change directory to the location of the archive.

Step 3: In the terminal type tar xzf InheritTheEarth-1.1-Linux-x86-Install.tar.gz to extract the archive. This will create a file named InheritTheEarth-1.1-Linux-x86-Install in the same directory as the archive.

Step 4: Once the trial software has been extracted, you can safely delete the archive file if you desire.

Step 5: To run the installation program, type ./InheritTheEarth-1.1-Linux-x86-Install. Follow the instructions.

Step 6: Use the icon on the desktop or the menu item in the system application menu to play the game. If you enjoyed the trial, return to this web site to purchase the game!

Pocket PC Requirements:

• Minimum memory without voiceovers: 32MB of internal memory
• Minimum memory with voiceovers: 64MB of internal memory or 32MB of internal memory and at least 64MB on a memory card
• Pocket PC 2003, Mobile 5 or Mobile 6 operating system
• A device with a stylus is highly recommended

The game must be installed from a Windows-based PC running ActiveSync. Place your Pocket PC device in the cradle (or other connection device) that allows it to sync with your PC before you begin the installation process.

Step 1: When you click on the Download Mobile button below, your browser will begin to download the Inherit the Earth installation software.

Step 2: If you are using Internet Explorer, you should be asked whether you want to run the software from its current location or save it to disk. Step 3: If you are using Netscape Navigator or chose to save to disk in step 2, you will be presented with a dialog asking where to save the file SetupInheritTheEarthPPC.exe. Save it where you want to, but remember the location.

Step 4: After the download is complete, find the SetupInheritTheEarthPPC.exe on your hard drive and double-click on its icon or name. This will start the set-up program. At the first window click the Install button.

Step 5: After you have accepted the license agreement, you will be asked to enter your registration information. If you have not yet purchased a registration key, click the Purchase button to acquire a key.

Step 6: You can install the software in your Pocket PC device's internal memory if there is enough space, or you can install the software entirely on a memory card, or you can install most of the game in one location and put the large voices file in a separate location, or you can choose not to install the voices.

Step 7: Once the install is complete, locate the Games directory on your Pocket PC device and launch the game from the Inherit the Earth icon. The first time the game is started your device may ask to confirm you want to run the game. Click Yes. You should not be asked this question again.

Step 8: Configure the software. See the online manual for instructions.
