Originally it was about the edited game screenshot... but then I decided it needed some text to go with it, and wrote the script. I myself am shocked to find that Morphs can be so evil... Wink

You could have finished the game by now, I think Wink

Send it on to me, I'll try to see what the problem is.

Just for comparison: the parallel cutscenes from Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Hope this is fair use...

(During a news report as part of an extended cutscene.) A blonde woman dressed completely in black is facing the screen from behind a red and black newsdesk.

Oxanna Kristos: In other news, General Hassan's weak and impotent rule was overthrown today when forces from within the Brotherhood rose up to unite us under a new leader: Anton Slavic, rescued from death by the spirit hand of Kane, has been vindicated of all crimes against the State. He steps forward now, to lead us. Follow him as you would follow Kane.

NEXT CUTSCENE - In a large meeting hall within the Nod Temple, Anton Slavic faces a large audience of serried Nod soldiers from a platform. Behind him, a large screen displays a sequence of inspiring words, like 'Brotherhood,' 'Peace,' 'Unity,' etc.

Slavic: Brotherhood, we are whole again! The sickness has been cut out!

(The audience cheers as Hassan is brought on to the raised platform. Slavic puts a knife to Hassan's throat.)

Slavic: In the name of Kane!

Nod Soldiers: Kane lives in death!

Slavic: In the name of Kane! ...

Nod Soldiers: Kane lives in death!

Slavic: In the name of KANE!

Nod Soldiers: Kane lives in...

(Kane appears on the screen.)

Kane: Kane ... LIVES!

(The Nod Soldiers cheer and begin chanting slogans.)

Kane (looks down at Hassan): You should learn, Hassan: you can't kill the messiah. [- not sure if these are the exact same words]

(Slavic slits Hassan's throat.)

Kane: Brothers, my people. I have returned. Never to leave your side again.

(The Nod Soldiers fall silent.)

Kane: G.D.I. sought to destroy me, but they have only made me stronger. Today, we march forth into our future, a stronger people! A divine people! The time has come to claim this world as our own! The time has come to destroy G.D.I.! One Vision, One Purpose!

Nod Soldiers: The Technology of Peace!

Kane: Peace through Power!

Slavic and the Nod Soldiers: Peace through Power! Peace through Power! (repeatedly)

...pretty haunting actually Wink

Okay, thanks... so here I go on my mission to clog Wyrmkeep's server in <128KB increments ;)

POINT, CLICK AND CONQUER : TIBERIAN RIF

_The Damsel Returns_

A news report commences. A wolf with red feathers on her head and dressed completely in black is facing the screen from behind a red and black newsdesk.

Shianna Kristos: Battle Day 3271. Good welcome, citizens. Our top story: General Gassarn's weak and impotent rule was overthrown today when forces from within the Brotherhood rose up to unite us under a new leader: Eeahnton Slavic, rescued from death by the spirit hand of Rhene, has been vindicated of all crimes against the State. He steps forward now, to lead us. Follow him as you would follow Rhene.

In a large meeting hall within the Morph Temple. Eeahnton Slavic faces a large audience of serried Morph soldiers - all Rif look-alikes - from a platform. Behind him, a large screen displays a sequence of inspiring words, like 'Brotherhood,' 'Peace,' 'Unity,' etc.

Slavic: Brotherhood, we are whole again! The sickness has been cut out!

(The audience cheers as Gassarn is brought on to the raised platform. Slavic puts a knife to Gassarn's throat.)

Slavic: In the name of Rhene!

Rif Soldiers: Rhene lives in death!

Slavic: In the name of Rhene! ...

Rif Soldiers: Rhene lives in death!

Slavic: In the name of RHENE!!

Rif Soldiers: Rhene lives in...

(Rhene appears on the screen.)

Rhene: Rhene... LIVES!

(The Rif Soldiers cheer and begin chanting slogans.)

Rhene (looks down at Gassarn): You should learn, Gassarn: you can't kill the Damsel.

(Slavic slits Gassarn's throat.)

Rhene: Brothers, my people. I have returned. Never to leave your side again.

(The Rif Soldiers fall silent.)

Rhene: B.D.I.* sought to destroy me, but they have only made me stronger. Today, we march forth into the Wild Lands, a stronger people! A divine people! The time has come to claim this island as our own! The time has come to destroy B.D.I.! One Heart, One Mind!

Rif Soldiers: The Technology of Orbs!

Rhene: Peace through Power!

Slavic and the Rif Soldiers: Peace through Power! Peace through Power! (repeatedly)

> Cue music: "Act on Instinct"

* = 'B.D.I.' is the Boar Defense Initiative. Lame, but all I could think of

I mistakenly asked this question on the webcomic page as a comment (no, don't ask). Just thought it would be polite to ask permission before I upload another piece of fan 'art'. Seeing as how I've uploaded two already within the space of a day.

The image I want to upload is a fake screenshot from 'Point, Click and Conquer: Tiberian Rif'. With some nasty compression, it manages to be 125KB at 800x600.
66  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Re: Mapmaking on: September 23, 2007, 09:26:04 PM
Rif: Yeah, that's a good story. I think you just can't bear to let a great puzzle-solver like me out of your castle.
Developers: We had nothing to do with it...
Rif: Well for all the good I'm doing in this maze, I might as well be encased in carbonite!

No, I really liked the maze. Had to switch off the music after a while though, or I'd go slowly insane... ;)

Ai, that's sad. Just save often, that way troubles like this won't require such drastic remedies next time.
68  Inherit the Earth Forums / Fan Art & Fiction / Re: But is it art? on: September 23, 2007, 09:13:57 PM
Thanks ... :)

I decided to make this when it occurred to me that both games revolve around an ancient artifact, with the power to change the world/sector, and left by an advanced race that had mysteriously disappeared. I was going to do something with an artifact that was between the Orb and the Nomad Artifact, but my pixel art skills (which were never much anyway) aren't what they were since I don't use Paintbrush (Win 3.1) anymore ...
69  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Mapmaking on: September 23, 2007, 12:31:58 PM
Just a miscellaneous tip for figuring out the mazes. I'm posting it because I spent the better part of six hours being stuck in THAT maze Wink
This is just a method, not a 'solution'.

Okay,... in the first two mazes, you will have a bird's-eye view. These are simple mazes to map, and shouldn't take you too long.

But after this is a 3D maze. Mapping it requires that you keep your head at all times, don't get comfortable and let down your guard, because that's when you map a right turn where there's a left turn, and suddenly your map is useless. Kind of makes me wonder at all the long hours spent on building it, must have been quite something...

Every time you enter a new passage, map it before continuing. For instance, if you reach a T-junction, map it as a T-shaped section in your map. Make a dot at the ends of each line segment to represent where the active points are - i.e., the points which will make Rif follow the appropriate passage. Make special note of distinctive landmarks like rooms or dead ends. Remember that your map will not make sense geometrically (reminds me of those old text-based adventure games!), probably because passages go over/under each other, so use different colours.

If you run out of space (this is likely,) then move the endpoint of the most recent passage to another sheet of paper or a blank area on your current paper by using a dashed line. That way you don't have to continually redraw the whole thing.

If you're like me, you will map a specific turn or junction incorrectly, and everything will go up in smoke. Don't lose heart, but keep mapping. Look for recurring patterns, then redraw the map and try to integrate the pieces that you've mapped many times, into one. Sometimes this will be surprisingly easy.

Finally, and this is applicable throughout the game, SAVE OFTEN. In the maze: save at the start of the maze, and every time you enter a room - it may be important, even if at first sight the room may seem to be yawn-inducing.

And now, as they say, "ek sal hierby volstaan" before I accidentally reveal something important. Oops, that kinda gave it away, didn't it? Wink

"It was the 23rd Century. Morphkind's darkest hour. We had been competing in puzzle contests for so long, nobody could remember the reason why it had all started in the first place. All we knew was that there were two sides: the Scorralition, and the Riffliance. For days, millions of game pieces 'died' for the same piece of chequered board, again and again. Finally, one side managed to gain the upper hand: the Scorralition.
"In ignorance, the Riffliance mentally polished the victory medallion, instead of concentrating on the Puzzle. And so the Scorralition kicked the Riffliance's behind.
"That was eight minutes ago, when we came here to parody two games at once. We've come a long way since then: we have joked, we have laughed, we have wasted time. And we will soon forget..."

>>     RIFLANCER     <<

The piece of fan art below is what might happen if you combined ITE with Freelancer. I don't have online space so I'm dumping it on the Wyrmkeep server, so please tell me if I'm wasting space. (Note that you must be registered as a user and logged on to view this image.)

EDIT: Uploaded it somewhere else, now hopefully viewable for everybody.

Oh, sorry about that. I see for some reason it's hiding my email address. wolfieinu@gmail.com

Your save file's path is probably C:/Program Files/Inherit the Earth/ITE.SAV

*winces* Tell you what, send me the save file (gameDirectory/ITE.SAV) and I'll see what I can do...

Try the nearest hut, all the others are just scenery. If you're sure it doesn't work you may have discovered a bug (?). Try loading an earlier save and playing from there, even if it means going over stuff you've already done.
74  Inherit the Earth Forums / Fan Art & Fiction / But is it art? on: September 22, 2007, 02:05:47 PM
I see someone else also heard of ITE through Wikipedia ... means I'm not the only one. Now what were they telling us in [[WP:NOT]] about advertising? :)

Okay, so I made this even before I knew about Inherit the Earth, so strictly I guess it's not fan art. But here it is anyway.

I also wrote some fan fiction... but I'll be going over it again to refine it a bit and avoid future embarrassment ;)
