1  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Re: Inherit the Earth 2 Updates on: August 31, 2014, 02:21:04 PM
I just read Project Update #10 that was sent out a few days ago.  It's sad to see that the second Kickstarter failed to gain traction -- though it did far better than the first.

I'm still looking forward to seeing ItE2 come out someday soon, and the mention of readjusting for a much lower (sub 25K) goal sounds like a great idea.  Perhaps moving ItE2 into an episodic model might help keep costs down.

Looking in from the outside it's hard for me to say much, but if I were to give one suggestion it would be advertising.
It was clear that far more effort was put into marketing and advertising with the second Kickstarter.  Being a fan of retro games I tend to follow news like this, but there just wasn't any buzz about ItE2.  I wish I could make a suggestion on how to get the word out, but you'd need a trained marketer for that.

I'm curious how far you've gotten with the game design.  I'm a programmer and author myself and would love to know what you're going through to create the game.

I wish you all the best of luck.

Best of luck -- I put my money in.

I'm not sure what you're doing for advertising though.  I only heard about the new Kickstarter by sheer luck (I found out about the previous one a day after it was cancelled).  I was hoping you'd be hyping it up for at least a month or two before starting.  I'm sure there are a ton of people who'd be happy to support, but havenít a clue this is happening.

Nice to hear that ITE2 is still alive.

I agree that promotion will be a big part of succeeding with the kickstarter.  Folks can't help if they don't know the project exists.
4  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Would ITE Be a Good Candidate for a Humble Bundle Game? on: June 17, 2013, 12:41:51 PM
A thought that crossed my mind.  The Humble Bundles have been great for bringing publicity to smaller game developers.  Would ITE be a good game to try and get included in a future bundle?

The Hubble Bundles have three major requirements:
1) The games have to run on Win/Mac/Linux... check.
2) The games have to be from 'indie' developers... check (they're okay with games that have been published in the past)
3) Part of the proceeds go to charity...

A number of companies such as Double Fine and Telltale have used the Humble Bundle as a way to not only bring in a quick injection of cash, but also help promote their future games.  This could be just what ITE needs if they want to raise awareness of the game and get ready for another Kickstarter campaign.

The last Humble Bundle raised 2.5 million dollars and was purchased 450,000 times during its two week run.

Wyrmkeep wouldn't get all the money (the bundles have between four to eight games in them), but it might be a nice windfall.  Plus it would help raise awareness of the game.

This could even fit in well with ITE's recent appearance on GOG.  A number of GOG titles also appeared on the Humble Bundle.

I'm new here, so this may have been discussed before.  Just a thought.
