1  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Re: Inherit the Earth 2 Kickstarter Postmortem on: January 29, 2013, 02:59:41 PM
I'm a big fan of the original game, and I do feel like the kickstarter should show some footage of the original game and artwork.  I know the first game was originally to be more mature, but the publisher felt that a game with talking animals would appeal to children, so it was scaled back a bit due to that, but the new game could change that.  I remember ITE2, as of 2006, was to be 2.5D perspective with a custom main character and cameos of Rif, Okk, Eeah, Rhene, and other characters from the first game.

I'm not sure the point-and-click format is the best way to go in this era of gaming, considering it's pretty much a dead genre, but certainly, it should be an adventure game.  I'm sure you already have your own idea as to what the game should be, but I'm just throwing that out.  The main thing about introducing a game in an already existing series is to familiarize newcomers to that game's world.  Rif is the clever hero type, but isn't perfect, he has faults, and that's good for any protagonist to have.  It means he has room to make himself better.  Rhene became the damsel in distress, but at the beginning she seemed fairly capable.  Perhaps she had tried to escape from the boars while Rif and the others were trying to solve the mystery of the missing orb?  One thing that kinda struck me was that they were fully capable of crafting and using tools, yet no weapons existed in the world.  The humans left behind some amazing technology, perhaps someone with sinister ideas would find a way to take control of that technology to become powerful?  Chota had discovered that the Orb of Storms could not only predict but control the weather, but that was only beginning.

Well, at least we know that the game will be released sometime between now, and December 31st, 2099...

Best of luck with whatever it is that is holding you up for now.

Uh oh...now that you've said that, they're going to change it to 2XXX so that it could be as late as the end of 2999.  Who knows, the world could blow up before this game is released.  I've been eagerly awaiting this game since 2006 when I first heard that a sequel was being made.

First off....  this n00b doesn't want this to "become another Legend of Zelda; Twilight Princess. They delayed that game for a year and a half!"

Well, I think it has been longer than that for ITE 2, I know I, personally have been waiting for over a year.  And seeing as the first one came out 13 years ago, I think it goes without saying that ITE 2 has likely at least been in people's minds for nearly that long.  However, a loyal follower of all things ITE, and otherwise furry related, I stand by, waiting;  Assured that I won't be let down......I won't, will I?  ...Will I?  WyrmMaster?

Edit after some digging:  Perhaps, it's longer than I thought!  I thought that ITE came out in 1994, but according to Talin's (of The Dreamer's Guild) website, the year listed is 1985!!!  It says right here (http://www.sylvantech.com/~talin/programs.html).  I can't conceive that to be true.  This instruction manual clearly says "Copyright 1994 New World Computing, Inc."  However, he was one of the top programmers on the project, so who am I to say he's wrong.

Thanks.  I just figured that out, today....if only I had kept better check on this forum.  Through the Windows XP version of ITE, I found I can choose between either the Windows CD version, Windows Demo version, or the original DOS CD version, which I just played from beginning to end, today.  Love it.  I used a soundpack, because, though I love XG midi, my soundcard doesn't support it.  The soundpack seemed to cause some strain on my ears when my speakers screeched at a certain part of the BGM that plays at Tycho's and Elara's sister's house.  I'm sure the Roland XG softsynth would've sounded great....  I posted a couple videos from ITE on YouTube.  Check them out through user, me, knuxthefox.

I have the version for WinXP.....  I'm trying to find a version that will work on ScummVM so that I can play it on other systems.  I'd kill to be able to play ITE on my DS.  Of course, I'd need some extra hardware to put ScummVM on it.  But I also have my Dreamcast, which I do know how to burn games to, and is fairly portable.  Is there a way to get ahold of an old copy of ITE?  Or is there a way I can make my version so it will run on ScummVM?

Subspark, I wasn't in the Wyrmkeep Forums when you posted this.  I've just been diving in the forums, and I'm interested in hearing your "SpaceTime Revision" of the ITE soundtrack.  The website that you had the files on is no longer...or the files or no longer, or whatever the case, I can't find your remake anymore.  Could you upload the files, again, or email them to me at rwelles@gmail.com ?  It would be much appreciated.

ITE for me was an outlet of creativity.  It introduced a possible future world that many have not imagined, where humans settle their differences with themselves as well as nature, and depart from the world, leaving all their great gifts that they had with the other creatures.  ITE, in my opinion, is still one of the greatest furry games ever made.  It had adventure, puzzle-solving, great dialogue/voice-overs, and is still a great game to pick up and play.  Compared to ITE, most other adventure games are boring.  It was a revelation in what society can be and may become soon.

True, the Orb of Hands was a how-to manual on how to build things...  The ferrets were builders and used the Orb of Hands as a tool to build that which they knew not how.  The Orb of Storms does predict storms, though many animals do have a good sense of the weather, and do predict changes rather easily, but this is a videogame, and perhaps "morphs" aren't as in tune with nature as their animal ancestors were.  However, seeing as the sentient human race has somehow found the power to give their gifts to the other creatures, then perhaps they, in fact, did have the technology to control the weather.  I believe it's all to be left to the imagination.  In other words, the Orb of Storms does whatever you believe it to, and no-one can say otherwise, because it can't be proven.  The Orbs are small specialized computer systems set to do what the humans programmed them to.  I wonder if there are only two.  Surely there were more than just two orbs.  Perhaps, the sequel will address this pondering...

Well, FC is this weekend.  I won't be there, since I live in Chicago, but I will be going to a mini-con setup by the great coordinators at LAFF.  I'm looking forward to hearing word on a release.  I'm still a bit confused about the overall appearance of the game...  So, ...well, I'd like to see some mock or functional screens...whichever comes first...  Well, if there are actual screens, I'd presume they wouldn't be followed by mock ones.  However, I'm just very eager to see another fine game of the likes of ITE to come to my lonesome pc.  Anyway, any news, please tell!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this question yet.

At the end of the game, the orb of storms is awaiting input of the end date of the dry season.  Are they stuck in a permanent dry season?

I can't wait to just get some early screens or concepts even to get an idea of what the game will look like.
12  Inherit the Earth Forums / General Inherit the Earth Forum / Re: Inherit the earth 2 ? on: July 24, 2006, 11:59:55 AM
I'm rather excited about the idea of a sequel.  I recently finished ITE, and am pleased, but....I want MORE!!!  (btw, is anyone going to set the date to end the dry period?)  But, as graphics are concerned....I have an idea of what it could look like...I'm not sure if that's how it will be, but 3d rendered characters and animations on 3d rendered backgrounds...not exactly a 3d game, but 3d graphics with the same view as before.  Or...  hand-drawn characters would also look fine if made to blend with the rest of the graphics fluidly.  After playing the first game, I would definatly want more voice-overs, better graphics, more puzzles, a longer game perhaps?  Also, the original was a straight-forward (point and click) adventure...  perhaps some RPG elements could be implemented.  Such as weapons, fights (other than cutscenes), and diversions/ways to make and spend money.
